General News Everything you wanted to know about Apple Pencil

At its special event, apart from launching the next-gen iPhones and Apple TV, Applealso introduced the larger, 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It is equipped with top of the line spec sheet and allows running two full-size apps side by side. Along with the iPad Pro, the company also introduced an accessory called Apple Pencil, which is essentially the stylus that takes full advantage of the 3D Touch feature.

One of the talking points of the Apple Pencil is its integrated sensors on its tip that can distinguish between pressure, tilt and stroke. Apple also claims that it has to precision to touch a single pixel on the high resolution display. It comes with a built-in lightning connector, which is revealed by removing the Pencil’s cap. You can simply connect the Pencil to the iPad Pro for charging it. Apple claims that with 15 seconds of charging, you can use the Pencil for 30 minutes and on a full charge, it can be used for 12 hours.

The unique thing about Apple Pencil is that it lets you use your fingers on the screen along with the stylus, simultaneously. In an introduction video, Apple has shed some light on the working of Apple Pencil with iPad Pro’s screen. To begin with, the screen touch subsystem is re-engineered to detect both finger and stylus input. When using the Pencil, the system scans twice, capturing more points for improved accuracy.

Pressing the Pencil lightly, you can get a thin stroke, whereas pressing harder gets a bolder and darker stroke. The signals that are emitted from the Pencil’s stroke calculate the orientation and angle for producing shaded or broader strokes. Apple claims that with low latency, using the Pencil feels like a true drawing or writing instrument.

Apple has also updated its Notes app for compatibility with the Pencil. Also, in a surprising move, Microsoft has partnered with Apple to make its Office apps compatible for iOS 9’s multitasking UI.

Back in 2010, when Apple introduced the iPad, the company claimed that the stylus was long dead in 2007. With the Apple Pencil, it seems like Tim Cook and Co. is confident enough both about their leadership and the innovative products that they are introducing. The Apple Pencil is priced at $99 (approximately Rs 6,500) and will be available in the US starting from November.
