General News Google Chrome for Android can now save up to 70% data, here’s how to activate it
Google last year added a new feature in its Chrome browser for Android and iOS that helped reduce data usage by up to 50 percent. Now, Google has further updated its Chrome for Android that is claimed to help save data usage up to 70 percent.

While announcing the new feature, Tal Oppenheimer, product manager for Google Chrome, revealed that the browser now removes most images when loading a page on a slow network. Once the page is fully loaded, users can tap to show individual images or all the images, thus making web surfing cheaper and faster on devices with slower Internet connections.

The updated Data Saver mode will initially be rolled out to Chrome users in Indonesia and India, while other countries will follow in the coming months.

Data compression is gradually becoming a standard feature for mobile browsers. Apart from Google Chrome, UC Web and Opera Mini are already having similar features. Recently, Opera Max, data-management app for Android, introduced a new feature that optimizes streaming music apps to save on data usage.

Activate data saver mode on Chrome for Android
If you are using Google Chrome on your Android smartphone or tablet, here’s how you can activate the data saver mode in the browser:

Step One: Open Chrome browser on your Android smartphone or tablet.

Step Four: On the top right, there’s a toggle to turn the feature On or Off. In case the feature is already activated, it will show a graph of data consumption for one month. It will also display the original size, the size after compression and the amount of data saved.
