Google had launched a safety check smartphone app last December, called Trusted Contacts. This app is essentially a location tracking-based app through which your ‘trusted contacts’ can check to know that you’re safe. Trusted Contacts was first launched as an Android app, and after half year, Google has now rolled out the iOS version as well. In addition, the Android version has also been updated with some new features.

Through this app, you can add family members and friends to your Trusted Contacts list. These contacts will be able to see your activity status. The app can be used to send your active location to your contacts to alert them of any untoward incident. Your contacts can request for location status to which you can either accept or deny. If a location status request is not responded for over five minutes, the location will be sent automatically. When commuting along, the app can be used to let your friend monitor your journey. Once you’ve safely arrived at your destination, you can always turn the location tracking off.

The Android version of Trusted Contacts has received new features. Trusted Contacts users on Android now have the option to determine the duration before sending one’s location to contacts who request for location status. Earlier the app would send the location status after five minutes of no response, but this can now be altered according to the user. Android users can now add contacts via email or mobile number. This is more like an invite which will be sent as a message to connect to the app.

Google has also added nine new languages to its Trusted Contacts app which brings up the total to number to 25. These languages include Amharic (Ethiopia), Greek (Greece), Persian (Iran), Bahasa (Indonesia), Macedonian (Macedonia), Burmese (Myanmar), Nepali (Nepal), Serbian (Serbia) and Urdu (Pakistan).
