Earlier this year at I/O 2016, Google unveiled its Amazon Echo competitor called Google Home. Today, at the Pixel and Pixel XL launch event, Google has finally announced the price and availability of Google Home. Priced at $129 (approximately Rs 8,700), it will go on preorder in the US starting today and start shipping from November 4. However, Google did not mention about availability in India. With the pricing, Google gets an advantage over its competitor, Amazon Echo, which is priced slightly higher at $180 (approximately Rs 12,000).

In a nutshell, Google Home is a hands-free voice activated interactive speaker built to perform simple daily tasks. You can ask Google Home for information, weather updates, stream music and a lot more. It includes a Wi-Fi enabled speaker that makes use of the new Google Assistant and Google Now to make daily life easier. The top suface of Google Home has a capacitive touch panel, using which you can easily trigger the Assistant, adjust volume and do more. There is a mic mute button on Google home to ensure the mic is only listening when you want it to.

Google Home is sleek, portable and comes with a clean design. You can easily change the bottom part – which will be offered in multiple colors and materials. The built-in microphone is powerful enough to understand your voice, whether you are nearby, in a kitchen or in your bedroom. For entertainment and music, Google Home can also connect with other Google devices such as Chromecast and Chromecast audio. It also acts as an Chromecast Audio receiver.

You can also ask Google Home to play your favorite music from could. It can access all your songs, podcasts, genres and playlist. It also works with Spotify, Pandora and YouTube Music. You can also use Google Cast to stream music from iOS or Android smartphone. What’s more? With a simple voice search, “Play Viva La Vida in Bedroom,” Google Home will play the song on a connected speaker in your bedroom. Google Home also lets you control videos and other content that appear on a Chromecast connected TV. That’s not all; you can even use Google Home as a voice activated remote control. With smart home connectivity, you can control the lights, thermostat, fans, SmartThings, Philips Hue, IFTTT and Nest devices.

Google has also made it easier for developers to integrate their services such as ordering flowers, booking a cab and more with voice command. On giving Google Home the required permissions, it can also retrieve details about your daily tasks, travel itinerary, and the traffic conditions on your way to work.
