HP has launched a new “Made in India” tablet called the Pro 8. The tablet has been launched at a price of Rs 19,374. The HP Pro 8 has been designed by the company’s Digital India team keeping in mind the various necessities of the country. The tablet comes with India-centric features such as Aadhaar authentication and support for 22 regional languages.

HP says that the Pro 8 tablet will help in carrying out flagship programs of the central and state governments, IANS reports. These would be done with customizable features, such as delivery of services related to financial inclusion and benefit schemes. In addition to this, the HP Pro 8 tablet comes with a thermal printer, magnetic strip reader for financial transactions, and a bar code scanner as well. The tablet is also water and dust-resistant but its IP rating isn’t specified.

Commenting on the relationship between HP and the government, Sumeer Chandra, Managing Director of HP India told IANS, “We have won a few big deals from state governments for delivering tens of thousands of such devices. These tablets are not just being sold purely as devices but as end-to end solutions. We will provide the devices and get partners to bring their software and solutions into it.”

HP Pro 8 specifications
The HP Pro 8 features an 8-inch HD IPS display which is claimed to withstand extreme temperature drops and rises. Under its hood runs a MediaTek MT8735 quad-core processor. The tablet comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage which is further expandable by up to 64GB via a microSD card. In the photography department, the HP Pro 8 sports a 5-megapixel camera at the rear and a 2-megapixel camera up front.

The connectivity options available on the tablet include 4G LTE support, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, USB 2.0, USB OTG, and a pogo pin jacket connector. Keeping the Pro 8 ticking is a 6,000mAh battery which is said to provide up to 15 hours of battery life. On the software front, the tablet runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
