General News Here’s why you should change your postpaid plan to a prepaid one

Postpaid subscribers used to be the cynosure of telecom operators. But that seems to be a tale from the days of yore. If you compare the postpaid plans with the prepaid ones today, you will be utterly surprised how much you are losing. Let’s first check the best-prepaid plans which are available today and compare them with the postpaid plans of respective telecom operators.

Disclaimer: As we told you earlier, most of the operators offer a number of plans in each circle, so here we take into account only the most advertised plans of the operators.

Airtel: The most talked about the prepaid plan of Airtel costs Rs 448 and for that, it offers 1 GB of 3G/4G data daily for 70 days as well as unlimited local and STD calls at 250 minutes per day – which is pretty much enough for any normal user.

On the other hand, for almost the same benefits you have to shell out more than Rs 50 under a postpaid connection from Airtel. Actually, even after that, you won’t get the equal benefit. Airtel offers just 20 GB of data under the Rs 499 postpaid plan. So see, even after paying Rs 50 extra, you get almost 30 GB less data under Airtel postpaid.

Vodafone: Vodafone is an even bigger culprit in this regard. It has a Rs 496 plan that comes with 84 days validity and offers 1GB of data per day – which means you will get huge 84 GB of data. On the other hand, its Rs 499 plan offers just 20 GB of data!

Jio: The Reliance Jio is no aberrant either. For instance, it has Rs 509 plan for both prepaid and postpaid users. But while prepaid users get huge 98 GB of data, the prepaid ones have to contend with meagre 60 GB.

Yes, one could counter the fact that in postpaid, you pay much later but this argument seems just plain non-sense these days. With unlimited calls facility, prepaid users are anyway secure from getting their services disconnected for not recharging accounts beforehand.

The days are gone where you have to go to your nearest mobile shop to recharge your account. Right now there are dedicated apps from the telecom operators as well as multiple avenues like PayTM, MobiKwik, Freecharge etc for easy and quick recharging.

But that’s not all. Switching from one operator to another (called as porting) is quite difficult vis-a-vis postpaid connections. Many times, operators simply reject the porting application citing non-payment of dues which can be just a few bucks.
