General News Hindi GECs launched seven new shows in November

[Image: SET-Star-Plus-Zee-TV-Sab-TV-Colors-main.gif]MUMBAI: Hindi general entertainment channels (GEC) launched seven shows in the month of November. The new shows were launched in fiction as well as non-fiction format and in diverse genres ranging from drama, historical to comedy.

Colors launched the most number of shows at three while Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Star Plus, Zee TV and Sab TV launched one show each.

Headlining the list of show launches was SET and Swastik Productions’ high-budget historical drama ‘Porus’ on 27 November. The show, which airs Monday to Friday at 8.30 pm, narrates the story of King Porus, who fought against Alexander the Great in the battle of the Hydaspes and was the biggest obstacle to Alexander’s ambition to conquer the Indian subcontinent. ‘Porus’ has been written and directed by Swastik Productions’ Siddharth Tewary.

While both SET and Swastik have invested in the show, the intellectual property (IP) of the show has been retained by Swastik barring the India broadcast rights, which rests with SET.

Colors launched two new non-fiction properties ‘Rasoi Ki Jung Mummyon Ke Sung’ and ‘Entertainment Ki Raat’ and one fiction show ‘Laado’.

The culinary game show, which launched on 12 November, airs every Sunday at 1 pm. Hosted by Rithvik Dhanjani, Chef Ranveer Brar is the judge of blind-tasting and whoever wins the blind tasting is the winner of the episode. The show will feature celebrity guests like Karishma Tanna, Rashami Desai, Ali Asgar and Shalmali Kholgade.

Colors also premiered ‘Entertainment Ki Raat’ on 18 November. The show, which airs every Saturday-Sunday at 10 pm, replaced channel’s suspense drama ‘Dev’ which was produced by Peninsula Pictures.

Produced by Urban Brew Studios, ‘Entertainment Ki Raat’ is divided in three segments with a guest celebrity for every episode. The first segment features Aditya Narayan rapping and taking digs at the guests. The next round sees Raghu Ram and RJ Malishka grill the guest with a Q&A round whereas in the final segment actor Ravi Dubey hosts stand-up comedy.

On the fiction front, Colors brought back its fictional drama ‘Na Aana Is Des Laado’ for a second season after the hiatus of almost five years. The second season titled ‘Laado 2’ premiered on 6 November. The show, which airs every Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm, replaced Shashi-Sumeet Productions romantic drama ‘Dil Se Dil Tak’, which got pushed to 10 pm.

‘Laado 2’ takes the legacy of the show forward showcasing the progress of its renowned character Ammaji. Produced by Dhaval Gada and Shankutalam Telefilms, the new season features Meghna Malik, Shashank Vyas, Avika Gor, Palak Jain, Adhvik Mahajan and Kanwar Dhillon in the lead role.

Zee TV premiered the sixth season of its popular dance reality show ‘Dance India Dance’ from 4 November. Hosted by Amruta Khanvilkar, the sixth season marks the return of popular actor-dancer Mithun Chakraborty as the Grand Master. The season also marked the debut of acclaimed dancer-choreographer Mini Pradhan as a judge alongside Marzi Pestonji and Mudassar Khan. Season 6 has also upped the ante by bringing onboard industry stalwarts of the stature of Saroj Khan, Farah Khan, Shiamak Davar, Chinni Prakash and Pt. Birju Maharaj amongst others who will give new challenges to the contestant. The show airs every Saturday- Sunday at 9 pm.

Star Plus launched a fiction drama ‘Ikyawann’ on 13 November which airs every Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm. The show replaced drama series ‘Chandra Nandini’. Produced by Panorama Entertainment, the show stars Namish Taneja and Prachi Tehlan in the lead role.

The show is set in Ahmedabad and revolves around a diffident girl, Susheel (Tehlan) who is the 51st child of the Parekh family. She is brought up under the care of four fathers and hence is tomboyish in nature. Her carefree way of living becomes a matter of worry for her four fathers when it comes to finding a suitor.

Satya, on the other hand, is bullied at the college. Satya and Susheel’s path crosses and they eventually fell in love with each other. The story follows their journey as they fall in love and try to find a way out of their own personal problems.

Sab TV launched a cop comedy series ‘Partners – Trouble Ho Gayi Double’ on 28 November. Produced by Idea’s Entertainment Producer, the series feature comedy stalwarts like Johny Lever, Kiku Sharda and Vipul Roy. The show airs every Monday-Friday at 9.30 pm.

‘Partners – Trouble Ho Gayi Double’ revolves around the story of Inspector Manav Anang Desai, aka M.A.D and Inspector Aditya Dev who become cop partners at work to solve crimes together. Inspector Manav played by Kiku Sharda is a lazy and clumsy man but he thinks of himself as a very skilled and sharp police officer.

On the other hand, Inspector Aditya, enacted by Vipul Roy is an intelligent, strong and devoted policeman. The duo is forced into forming a partnership as a part of the Special Investigation Team headed by the Commissioner of Police, Gogol Chatterjee played by Johny Lever.
