General News How to send WhatsApp voice messages using Google Assistant

#1
Voice assistants are becoming a key aspect of smartphones these days. One may feel idiotic talking to the phone for doing even the simplest of tasks such as turning the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on or off, ask for weather updates, call a contact or send a text, but hands-free operation can come handy at times. Earlier, you could use voice commands to ask Google Assistant to send text messages to contacts on WhatsApp, and now, you can even send voice messages.

How to send voice messages on WhatsApp using Google Assistant
The feature was recently discovered by AndroidAuthority, and it lets you record a voice message without firing up WhatsApp. To be able to use the feature, you need to have Google Assistant enabled on your device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, and above. To do this, open Google app, tap on the hamburger menu on the top left, followed by Settings, and then tapping on Voice. In this menu, tap on “Ok Google detection” and set up the assistant.

If I want to send a voice message to my friend Sambit, I need to simply say, “Ok Google, send a voice message to Sambit”. It will start the voice recording app, and you can record clips up to 30 minutes. Once you are done speaking, Google Assistant will ask if you want to listen to the playback, delete and record again or send it. Simply say ‘send’, and it will send the voice message to the recipient right away. The feature works when sending a voice message to individual contacts, but you cannot send it to WhatsApp groups yet.

Recently, WhatsApp has seen a number of improvements in the beta version, where you can micro manage the storage consumption to see exactly which chat conversation is consuming most storage. Recently, Ola, OYO Rooms and BookMyShow joined hands with WhatsApp for Business Program, which will allow the companies to send booking confirmation on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is also testing the ‘Unsend’ message feature for iOS and Android, which will let you recall those unwanted messages you accidentally sent. The company also recently rolled out picture-in-picture video calling feature for all, along with colorful text updates.
