At a time when the folks at the West are busy brainstorming on how to make their devices water and dust resistant, Japan has moved a step further. A Japanese company known as Kyocera has introduced a new smartphone which you can, well, wash with a soap.

Dubbed as rafre, the smartphone is only available in Japan starting March 2017 at the moment and it is highly unlikely to become available globally. This is not the first washable smartphone, the company in 2015 launched a similar smartphone and this is its successor. The device can be seen as an ideal device for those who have the fantasy of using a smartphone while taking a bath or those who want to keep their smartphones neat and clean. This is because the phone is equipped with MIL-STD-810G, IPX5, IPX8 and IP5X ratings, meaning that the phone is water, dust and shock resistant.

The company has also added a Smart Sonic Receiver technology which uses vibrations in order to transmit sound using device’s display. Talking about the specs, the smartphone comes with a 5-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The company has not revealed the processor, but the phone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. On the camera front, you get a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and measures 142 x 71 x 10.4mm, while it weighs 158 grammes. The company hasn’t revealed the price, but if you got the chance to visit Japan and buy this device, will you pick it? Please share your views in the comment section.
