Lenovo Vibe K5 Note vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 vs LeEco Le 2 vs Moto G4 Plus: Price, specifications and features compared

Earlier today, Lenovo launched the new Vibe K5 Note and upgraded Vibe K5 Plus with increased RAM and new UI. Successor to the Vibe K4 Note, the new Vibe K5 Note comes with a better processor and more RAM on board, along with other optimizations in tow. The smartphone will go heads on with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (32GB), LeEco Le 2 and Moto G4 Plus. We pitted all four smartphones to compare based on their price, specifications and features. Here’s how they fare.

Price: The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note will be offered in two variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB onboard storage for Rs 11,999, and 4GB RAM + 32GB onboard storage for Rs 13,499. The smartphone will go on sale exclusively via Flipkart starting August 3 at 11:59PM. Motorola’s Moto G4 Plus will set you back by RS 13,499 for 2GB RAM + 16GB storage, and Rs 14,499 for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. It is exclusively available via Amazon India.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (32GB storage + 3GB of RAM) is priced at Rs 11,999 and available exclusively via Amazon India and Mi.com. The Le 2, on the other hand, will set you back by Rs 11,999 and can be purchased exclusively via LeMall.com and Flipkart.

Display, processor, RAM and storage: All four smartphones feature a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display. Under the hood, the Vibe K5 Note is powered by MediaTek Helio P10 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and paired with Mali-T860 GPU. As mentioned before, the smartphone is offered in 3GB  or 4GB  of RAM with 32GB storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 128GB.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 hexa-core chipset (four Cortex-A53 cores and two Cortex-A72 cores) paired with 2GB of RAM + 16GB storage, and 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. It also boasts a hybrid SIM card slot that accepts two SIM cards or one SIM card and one microSD card slot, not both.

The Moto G4 Plus is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM + 16GB onboard storage, or 3GB of RAM + 32GB of onboard storage. The Le 2, on the other hand, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM. While it is equipped with 32GB of onboard storage, option for expandable storage is missing.

The LeEco Le 2 has the most powerful processor of the four followed by the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. However, the real world performance is dependent on a lot of variables including software optimization. It is difficult to comment how the Vibe K5 Note, especially the 4GB RAM variant, would perform. We will wait until using the device to pass our judgement.

Camera: For shutter bugs, the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The Moto G4 Plus, Redmi Note 3 and the Le 2 are all equipped with 16-megapixel rear cameras along with dual tone LED flash. The Le 2 also includes 4K video recording capabilities, which is missing from other smartphones. Up front, the Redmi Note 3 and Moto G4 Plus are equipped with 5-megapixel selfie cameras, whereas the Le 2 is equipped with 8-megapixel camera.

Battery: Lenovo has packed a 3,500mAh battery on the Vibe K5 Note with support for fast charging. Moto G4 Plus is armed with a 3,000mAh battery along with TurboPower charging support, where Motorola says even charging for 15 minutes could offer up to six hours of usage. The Le 2, on the other hand, features a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, whereas the Redmi Note 3 is equipped with 4,050mAh battery.

Operating System: Lenovo’s Vibe K5 Note runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 wrapped under Vibe UI. The Moto G4 Plus runs on Android Marshmallow OS, and so Le 2 as well. LeEco has wrapped the OS under its custom EUI. The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS wrapped under MIUI 7, and an update to Marshmallow 6.0.1 wrapped under MIUI 8 is due to launch later this month.

Connectivity: In terms of connectivity, all four smartphones feature dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and GPS. The Le 2 also features the new USB Type-C connectivity port for charging, data transfer and audio as well.

Miscellaneous features: All smartphones feature a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. While the Moto G4 Plus features a metal frame and fingerprint scanner embedded within the home button on the front, the Le 2, Redmi Note 3 and Vibe K5 Note feature a metal unibody design with fingerprint scanner placed below the camera module.

Lenovo’s Vibe UI includes a couple of handy features such as TheaterMax technology for VR and Secure Zone which lets you run two separate accounts on your phone. For instance you can have two WhatsApp accounts. Also, photos clicked with Secure Zone will not show up when out of it.
