As per section 8 of The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, the cable operators will have to compulsorily include the Doordarshan channels notified by the central government in the Official Gazette.
With the addition of DD Arunprabha, there are 26 DD channels which are mandatory channels including DD Bangla, DD Bharati, DD Bihar, DD Chandana, DD Girnar, DD India, DD Kashir, DD Kisan, DD Madhya Pradesh, DD Malayalam, DD National, DD News, DD North East, DD Oriya, DD Podhigai, DD Punjabi, DD Rajasthan, DD Sahyadri, DD Saptagiri, DD Sports, DD Urdu, DD Uttar Pradesh, Gyan Darshan, Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV.
DD Arunaprabha, the 24th satellite channel from public broadcaster Doordarshan’s stable was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9th February 2019. The North East India focussed channel showcases the rich tradition and diversity of local culture. The channel’s content line-up includes news, travelogues, mythological shows, documentaries, magazines, telefilms, reality shows, and daily shows.
The playout facility and the earth stations established at DDK Itanagar ensures seamless transmission of DD Arunprabha. It is equipped with state of the art facilities, including a Digital Satellite News Gathering unit to provide live coverage from remote locations, for a 24×7 telecast.
