Microsoft has finally launched Office for Android smartphones. After five weeks of public testing, the productivity services suite including Word, Excel and Powerpoint is now available to download for free from the Google Play Store.

The preview mode was made available in 83 countries and 1,900 Android devices. The feedback received from users was then incorporated by the company before making them available for commercial use from today.

“During the preview, we heard from thousands of these users, and over the last few weeks we were able to incorporate a lot of their feedback into the apps we’re launching today. For example, we made it easier to connect to other popular third-party storage offerings like Google Drive and Box, as well as many usability adjustments to make it easier to navigate commands within the apps,” Microsoft corporate vice president Kirk Koenigsbauer said in a company statement.

These apps will now let you sync your desktop documents, so that you can access them on your phone via Google Drive, OneDrive or even Dropbox. It eliminates the need to bring a laptop to a presentation or a meeting, and use the handheld device instead. It lets you quick edit, share documents and basically do all the things you did with the Microsoft Office suite now from your Android phone.
Microsoft also announced that many Android OEMs like Samsung, Sony and LG will now launch their smartphones with the Microsoft suite of apps pre-loaded. You can download WordExcel and PowerPoint apps here.
