General News Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus with improved camera, and dual-rear cameras launched

The long rumored Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus are now official. These smartphones offer an upgrade over the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus, both of which were launched at the MWC 2017 expo. The Moto G5S is priced at €249 (approximately Rs 18,900) and the Moto G5S Plus starts at €299 (approximately Rs 22,700). The color options for the smartphones include Lunar Gray and Fine Gold. In terms of availability, the smartphones will arrive in various countries globally starting this month and in the US by this fall.

The Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus go through some changes under the hood and on the exterior as well. Motorola has retained the all-metal unibody design, but with visible antenna lines running on the back of the smartphones. The front panel looks pretty much the same with the pill shaped Home button intact. Amongst the upgrades received, the biggest would be the dual-rear camera setup on the Moto G5S Plus, featuring two 13-megapixel sensors. The setup allows for selective focus mode to achieve DSLR-like depth-of-field effect in photos.

Moto G5S specifications
The Moto G5S features a 5.2-inch full HD display. Under its hood, runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor, which is the same as on the Moto G5. The smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. In the photography department, the Moto G5S sports an improved 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash.

Up front, it houses a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash too. Keeping the smartphone ticking is a 3,000mAh battery, comparatively bigger than the 2,800mAh on the G5. It also comes with support for TurboPower charging which claims to offer five hours of juice with 15 minutes of charge. On the software front, it runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Moto G5S Plus specifications
The higher variant of the two, the Moto G5S Plus flaunts a bigger 5.5-inch full HD display. The Moto G5S Plus is also powered by the same Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor, as seen in the Moto G5 Plus. In terms of memory, there are two variants of 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage. Apart from the dual camera module, the smartphone also sports an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera with LED flash up front. The Moto G5S Plus is also fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery along with TurboCharge support, and will run on Android 7.1 Nougat. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor which is embedded on the Home button up front.
