Mozilla has announced a couple of new tools for netizens as a part of Firefox‘s Test Pilot Experiments. Firefox has been virtually missing in action because of being overshadowed by increasingly popular rival Google Chrome. The constant upgrades, and the new file transfer feature in particular hint that the makers of Firefox are not settling for now.
Firefox’s new file transfer tool is essentially web-based, and is not only limited to Firebox browser. The file share interface can be accessed from any browser via send.firefox.com web link. The developers of the file-share tool have kept it completely clutter free as it requires no sign up to send or receive files. One can start sharing right at from the first drop. Also, users can send a file up to 1GB via Firefox file share tool.
To share, select a file from your local system, and drop it on the web page. Once the file is uploaded and encrypted on Mozilla servers, it will generate a URL. All you need to do is share the URL with the recipient of the file, which will redirect them to the download page. A user, on the other end, can download the file right from the page without giving away on any of their details such as email id. The link is set to destruct itself after 24 hours making the file transfer completely safe on company’s server.
Well, that does make the Firefox tool stand out from other existing file-transfer platforms such as WeTransfer, Google Drive and other. Alongside, Mozilla is also testing a Firefox Notes and Voice Fill tools. As the name suggests, the tool would enable users to make note of important things simultaneously as they surf. While the Voice Fill lets you make limited searches on Google, Yahoo or other search engines by voice command. Now, it is not completely hands-free, and neither its intelligence grows as a modern day digital assistant.
