MUMBAI: After Fox Broadcasting Company passed on Warner Bros’ fantasy drama series Lucifer, over the top (OTT) platform Netflix has picked up the series for the fourth season.

The news of Lucifer’s cancellation after an on-the-edge cliffhanger in the third season finale got a massive cry out from fans. The fans carried out a month-long campaign #SaveLucifer on social media platform, requesting other broadcasters to pick up the show for the new season. The campaign also received support from the cast including the lead actor Tom Ellis who concluded his tweets with SaveLucifer hashtag.

Following the fan support, WB started pitching the series to online platforms. However, as soon as Netflix announced its plans to pick some new shows, fans flocked to the OTT platform with #SaveLucifer campaign. The plea was heard and Netflix announced the pick of Lucifer S4 on the social media platform. The official handle of the show Lucifer tweeted, “Fans, your voices have been heard. Season 4 coming to Netflix!!!”

Netflix has made a deal with the show which will become a Netflix original starting with its upcoming fourth season. Lucifer is based on the comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman. It stars Ellis, Lauren German, Rachael Harris, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aimee Garcia, Tricia Helfer, Scarlett Estevez and Kevin Alejandro.

The story of the original fallen angel continued in Season 3, with Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar (Ellis), helping LAPD detective Chloe Decker (German) take down criminals. The show is produced by WBTV in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television. The series is executive-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Joe Henderson, Ildy Modrovich, Sheri Elwood and KristieAnne Reed.

Lucifer joins cult cancelled comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which landed at NBC after the Fox cancellation.
