General News Netflix reveals shows that Indians binge-watched in 2017

[Image: netflix-02.jpg]MUMBAI: Crime drama ‘Narcos’ and science fiction ‘Stranger Things’ were the most watched shows in 2017 on Netflix in India, according to the end of the year report released by the internet TV giant.

Apart from ‘Narcos’ and ‘Stranger Things’, other shows devoured by Netflix India users were ’13 Reasons Why’, ‘Mindhunter’, ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’, ‘Orange is the New Black’, ‘Riverdale’, ‘The Crown’ and ‘Better Call Saul’.

Other shows that brought India together in 2017 were ‘Chef’s Table’, ‘Riverdale’, ‘ASOUE’, ‘Atypical’ and ‘The Good Place’.

The shows that Indians savoured in 2017 include ‘Midnight Diner: Tokyo Series’, ‘Samurai Gourmet’, ‘Big Mouth’, ‘Disjointed’, ‘Neo Yokio’, ‘You Me Her’, ‘The Crown’, ‘One Day at a Time’, ‘ASOUE’ and ‘The Confession Tapes’.

Shows that were viewed more than two hours per day have been identified as ‘devoured’ while the ones with less than two hours of viewing have been identified as ‘savoured’.

The popularity is based on the average daily viewing hours per member between 1 November 2016, and 1 November 2017.

The report also suggested that Indians binge faster than viewers in other countries. On an average, Indians binge a TV show in three days, a day less than the global average of four days.

According to Netflix, animated movie ‘The SpongeBob Square Pants’ was viewed 171 times by a member in India. The highest number of streams in India took place on 29 October 2017.

Indians also led the list of top mobile downloaders in the world for Netflix content. However, TV devices remained important for streaming as 34 percent of Netflix viewing hours in India was recorded through connected TVs.

Globally, the subscribers watched more than 140 million hours of TV shows, movies, documentaries and more per day.
