General News New iPhone OS technology reduces battery drain, signalling issues
Advertisement
#1

In its latest iPhone iOS 4.2 software, Apple has included support for Network Controlled Fast Dormancy technology which makes the network and the handset to work together to create the best conditions for smartphones, providing longer battery life and minimizing network congestion.Nokia has already implemented this technology in its smartphones.

Most of the smartphones constantly connect to the network, due to various network applications and this creates huge amount of signalling. As an example when a user retrieves emails and as soon as all the emails are retrieved some smartphones then switch to idle state in order to conserve battery power. So when user wants more data smartphone has to re-connect. This causes network and phone exchanging many small signals. All this disconnecting and reconnecting takes time and can cause a frustrating slow network response. On the other end, if smart phone remains in active mode it drains battery very quickly.

To resolve this issue Nokia Siemens has introduced a method which keeps the smartphone in intermediate state instead of putting into idle or in active state. This reduces the reconnection time and consumes less battery.
