Along with the new Snapdragon 430 and Snapdragon 617 processors, Qualcomm also announced a new version of its fast charge technology, called Quick Charge 3.0. The new version brings a host of improvements over its predecessor, and promises up to four times faster charging speeds.

With Quick Charge 3.0, Qualcomm says users can charge the smartphone up to four times faster compared to regular USB charging, and twice as fast as the Quick Charge 1.0. The chipmaker also claims that it is 38 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0 and is compatible with USB Type-A, USB Type-C, micro-USB and other proprietary connectors.

Quick Charge 3.0 employs a new algorithm called Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), enables optimum power transfer while maximizing efficiently at the same time. The new version offers increased range of voltages – in 200mV with increments from 3.6V to 20V. This way, the smartphone and tablets can target dozens of power levels.

If it’s too technical, here is the kind of speed Qualcomm promises. As per the company, QC 3.0 can charge a smartphone’s battery from zero to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. Furthermore, Qualcomm says that QC 3.0 is up to 38 percent more efficient than QC 2.0, and reduces power dissipation by up to 45 percent as well.

The Quick Charge 3.0 will be available with new Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, such as Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430. Smartphones and tablets with these new chipsets will start shipping early next year.
