Reliance Jio’s next big launch is expected to be fibre to the home (FTTH) broadband service. The home broadband service has been in testing for sometime now and was rumored to launch during Diwali but the telco seems to be engaged in an extended testing.

According to a new report, Reliance Jio has begun offering FTTH broadband connections with 1.1TB of free data at speed of 100Mbps in select markets in the country. The Hindu reports that the commercial roll out of the service is expected to begin in the second half of this year.

“The initial FTTH plan includes 100GB of free data at 100Mbps speed; once the data limited is exhausted, the customers can do top-up of 40 GB of free data 25 times in a month, effectively meaning 1,100 GB of free data a month,” a source told The Hindu.

The report notes that interested customers can get JioFiber connection by paying an interest-free refundable security deposit of Rs 4,500. The interesting feature is that the Jio router can also used as a set-top box when the company launches its IPTV (internet protocol television) service.

Reliance Jio recently confirmed that it has begun trials for enterprise solutions, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and the Internet of Things (IoT) services in the country. The company’s FTTH offer is seen as the next big disruption in India’s broadband data consumption and could affect service providers including Bharti Airtel and state-owned MTNL as well as BSNL in select markets.

“The company continues to make progress for delivering Enterprise solutions, FTTH and IoT with beta trials initiated in a few locations. These services are being offered using the same integrated network and platforms,” the Mukesh Ambani-led company said in a statement.

Reliance Jio said its total wireless data traffic during the last quarter stood at 506 crore gigabyte. With FTTH service, the data consumption will only increase further. Jio is expected to launch its FTTH service for both households and enterprise customers. It is trying to target 100 million households with television by offering JioFiber with IPTV service across 30 cities.
