Pros: Camera, performance and UI
Cons: Battery can be better, display is a fingerprint magnet

Look and feel

Honestly speaking nowadays whenever I look at any new smartphone that comes with a metal body I really don't find any difference and if their logo is covered most will even struggle to identify the phones.

So when I saw Honor 5C for the first time, the feeling was similar but on closer observation, I did notice it was different. It has a metal body that curves gently around to encase the display. It fits comfortably in the palm and even though it has a huge 5.2-inch display it doesn't feel like a big device.

Also, the metal body around the corners has a textured finish which boosts the grip further while breaking the monotony. The power button and volume rocker, which are kept on the right side panel, are also slightly curved and gel with the design of the 5C. The rear camera is slightly raised and just below it, there is a fingerprint scanner.

The device seems to be resistant to minor scratches. The design elements of the device don't shout, rather their appearance is subtle. The only thing, I didn't like in Honor 5C is that in spite of having ample space on the front panel the device has navigation keys on display.

Display
The 5.2-inch display of Honor 5C has a screen resolution of 1920x1080p, is impressive. One will not find problems reading the text, watching a video or even playing games as it bright and vibrant. Though in In broad sunlight visibility decreases significantly even when the brightness is on maximum. Also, the display is a fingerprint magnet.

Camera
Huawei Honor 5C is equipped with a 13-megapixel primary camera with f2.0 aperture and an LED flash on the rear while an 8-megapixel is in the front for selfies.

In broad sunlight and decent lighting, pictures come out really well with ample detailing from both front and rear camera. In close-ups shots by the rear camera, I felt colour reproduction was a bit off as it tends to be a shade darker than the actual colour.

The autofocus functionality of both the cameras, in general, is fast and reliable, expect in close shots where it takes a couple of extra seconds. The camera app of 5C has plenty of option to choose from like Slom-motion, time lapse and pro-mode for those who love experimenting.

User Interface
The Honor 5C comes with latest UI from Huawei called as EMUI 4.1 which is based on Android Marshmallow. Like it previous versions, EMUI 4.0 also doesn't have an app drawer. Similar to iOS interface. As compared it its predecessor, it is free of any bloatware and appears to be decent. It has all the goodness of latest Android operating system which includes better battery management. The emotion UI is easy to use and customise. Apart from exploring different themes and widgets, one can even customise icons also. It comes preloaded with an Indian theme as well.

Performance
Honor 5C runs on HiSilicon Kirin 650 octa-core processor with 2GB RAM. Just like Samsung, this chipset has been completely and designed in-house by Huawei. n terms of storage, the phone offers 16GB of RAMwhich can be further increased to 128 GB via micro SD card.

During the time we were using the device we never felt any heating issues or encountered any lag in the device. Navigation, opening and closing of apps has been a smooth affair. Multitasking and playing games like NFC and Asphalt Nitro was a pleasurable task. Even the fingerprint scanner was quick and responsive.

Battery
The 3000 mAh battery is good enough to give you a days backup if you are kind of user who just does everything on mobile be it emailing, gaming, surfing , watching videos, clicking pictures and social media. In numeric terms on full recharge and keeping the display brightness on auto you can get around 8 - 9 hours of battery juice if you have synced couple of emails and all the social media feeds, watch video from around 15 minutes, play games for 15- 20 minutes, talk for about 2 hours and click on 40 pictures.

Verdict
Huawei Honor 5C is a good budget smartphone which delivers a trouble-free performance. I hope a couple of updates, which are expected to be released soon, will improve camera's performance in close-up shots and battery output by another couple of hours. But having said that, one will not regret buying Honor 5C if the budget is around Rs 10,000.
