[Image: Prithvi-Vallabh.jpg]MUMBAI: Hindi GEC Sony Entertainment Television’s (SET) sub-brand SET Originals will debut in December with the launch of ‘Prithvi Vallabh’, a 40-episodic historical series that will air every weekend at 8.30 pm.

With SET Originals, the channel aims to look at unexplored subjects which will be finite in nature. The brand will also act as a platform for upcoming producers and directors to feature their shows.

“SET Originals will feature shows that are high in production. We are aiming to take these shows to the international market. It won’t be necessarily limited to weekend slot. We are launching Prithvi Vallabh on weekend because we thought that the slot will do justice to the story. But the sub-brand will also have shows that will be launched on weekdays. We have some great shows coming up so our programming line-up is really robust and we are hoping to maintain our audience interest with it,” SET business head Danish Khan told TelevisionPost.com.

Produced by Aniruddh Pathak under the banner of Writers Galaxy Studio, Prithvi Vallabh revolves around two kings, Prithvi Vallabh and Tailap, of neighbouring kingdoms. The show will feature Ashish Sharma in the lead role while Sonarika Bhadoria will portray the character of Mrinal. The show has got on board popular Bollywood actor Mukesh Rishi in a pivotal role.

With Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 9 nearing its end, the channel is revamping its programming line-up by launching new shows. As reported earlier by TelevisionPost.com, Ek Diwana Tha will replace KBC at 10 pm slot from 23 October and Haasil at 9.30 pm from 30 October.[Image: KBC-Season-9%E2%80%99.jpg]

Currently, KBC airs from 9 to 10.30 pm, however, with the launch of Ek Diwana Tha the quiz show will become a one-hour affair. The quiz show will be moved to 8.30 pm slot following the launch of Haasil on 30 October.

It will replace SET’s popular thriller drama Beyhadh, which airs at 8.30 pm. In the new time slot, KBC will feature contestants who participated in its interactive initiative Jio Play Along. The winners of Jio Play Along will receive an opportunity to grab the hot seat and win the sum of Rs 7 crore.

KBC is expected to conclude mid-November following which the channel will air its most ambitious project Porus at 8.30 pm. SET has already locked in three sponsors – Pantanjali Dant Kanti, Raymond and Macho – for the show.

[Image: Ek-Diwana-Tha.jpg]Produced by Swastik Productions, the half-hour show is high on production value and narrates the story of King Porus, who fought against Alexander the Great in the battle of the Hydaspes and was the biggest obstacle to Alexander’s ambition to conquer the Indian subcontinent.

Porus is the first show in India wherein the IP will be owned by the producer. As per the deal, SET will hold the rights for a three-year period post which it will be owned by Swastik in perpetuity.

The production house will have control over the digital and syndication rights, which means they can sub-license the show to digital or international players, who can air the episodes after three hours of its original airing on SET. Swastik Productions is in talks with various digital players nationally and internationally for sub-licensing the rights.[Image: Porus-Serial-on-Sony-TV.jpg]

While Porus will air in the 8.30 pm slot, the 9 pm slot will feature Shashi Sumeet Productions’ new fiction drama Ristha Likhenge Hum Naya.

It is a story of unique relationship which is based on a simple promise made to a dying man. Set in the royal canvas of Rajasthan, it is a finite story which will challenge the conventional perception of man being the protector of a woman and turn this stereotypical thought on its head. It features Tejaswi Prakash, who will play the role of Diya, Rohit Suchanti, who will essay the role of Ratan.
