General News SPNI revises channel pricing, unveils new bouquets for the MRP regime

MUMBAI: Broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has revised the maximum retail price (MRP) of its 29 channels and unveiled 27 new standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) bouquets.

SPNI owns and operates 18 standard definition (SD) and 11 high definition (HD) channels.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Sony Sab, and Sony Ten 1 have been priced at Rs 19 each while Sony Ten 2 has an MRP of Rs 17. The MRP of Sony Max, Sony Six, and Sony Ten 2 is Rs 15 each.

AXN and Sony ESPN have been priced at Rs 5 each while Sony Aath, Sony Marathi, and Sony BBC Earth have been priced at Rs 4 each. Sony Yay! has an MRP of Rs 2 while four channels – Sony Max 2, Sony Mix, Sony Pal, and Sony Wah – have been priced at Rs 1 each. Sony Wah was free to air (FTA) channel in the previous regime.

In terms of HD channel pricing, the broadcaster has priced four channels at Rs 19. These include SET HD, SAB HD, Sony Ten 1 HD, and Sony Six HD. Three channels have an MRP of Rs 17 including Sony Max HD, Sony Ten 2 HD, and Sony Ten 3 HD. Sony BBC Earth HD is priced at Rs 10 while Sony ESPN HD and AXN HD have an MRP of Rs 7 each.

The broadcaster has not published the MRP of Sony Le Plex HD, Sony Rox HD, and Sony Ten Golf HD. Sony had earlier stated that it intends to launch Sony Marathi HD in place of Sony Ten Golf HD.

The broadcaster is offering a discount of 20% to broadcasters on the MRP and bouquet rates.

SPNI has created 18 SD and 9 HD bouquets. The bouquets have created on the basis of region as well as genres. The bouquets, which have been named Happy India, also have HD variants.

The bouquets include Happy India, Happy India Bangla, Happy India Platinum, Happy India Bangla Platinum, Happy India South, Happy India Football, Happy India South Platinum, Happy India South Football, Happy India Sports, and Happy India English.

The HD bouquets include Happy India HD, Happy India Sports HD, Happy India English HD, Happy India Sports + English, Happy India Platinum HD, and Happy India Bangla Platinum HD.

The SD bouquets have been priced between Rs 31 to Rs 69 while HD bouquets range from Rs 59 to Rs 93.
