#1

After the unfortunate debacle of the Galaxy Note 7 last year, Samsung started 2017 on a positive note with the launch of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Both smartphones have left the users and critics widely impressed, and with the launch of the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung hopes to repeat the success, and regain the lost glory of the Galaxy Note-series. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has gone official, and its design, specifications and features are in sync with what we have already come across leaks and rumors.

Samsung has gone with the front and back curved glass design for the Galaxy Note 8. To keep scratches at bay, the glass is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. One of the major problems with Galaxy S8 design was the odd placement of the fingerprint sensor, just besides the camera module. Now, while Samsung hasn’t solved the issue with the Galaxy Note 8, it has moved it besides the LED flash, and the heart rate sensor.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 specifications, features
The Galaxy Note 8 flaunts a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED curved edge display with QHD+ resolution, and aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The display also features HDR support, allowing you to stream content from Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

At the heart of the Galaxy Note 8 runs the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. There are two more variants with 128GB and 256GB onboard storage options. In regions like India and other Asian countries, the Galaxy Note 8 will be powered by a 64-bit Exynos 8895 octa-core SoC. The smartphone also features a microSD card slot, allowing you to further expand the storage.

In the photography department, the Galaxy Note 8 features dual-camera setup at the back. Out of the two, one is a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens of aperture f/1.7, whereas the other is a 12-megapixel telephoto lens of aperture f/2.4. Both cameras work in tandem to offer 2X optical zoom capabilities, and 10X digital zoom. Up front is an 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

Just like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, OnePlus 5, and a handful of other smartphones, the dual-camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8 also features portrait mode, which lets you add DSLR-like blur effects to your photos. Lastly, the camera also features ‘Super Night Shot’ mode to let you capture brighter low-light photos with more details.

On the connectivity front, the Galaxy Note 8 features 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. The smartphone also comes with USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. Armed with a 3,300mAh battery, the Galaxy Note 8 features fast charging and wireless fast charging. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with TouchWiz UX on top. It is also due to get Android Oreo update in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features
The Galaxy Note 8 is a big step up from last year’s Galaxy Note 7. The new smartphone brings in nifty new features, top of the line hardware and much more. Just like the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, the new Galaxy Note 8 also comes with an Infinity Display and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Other features such as Samsung Pay for contactless payments, fingerprint scanner and iris scanner for biometric authentication, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance are some of the features present on the Galaxy Note 8. Samsung is also betting big on its AI-based smart digital assistant, Bixby. While the Galaxy S8 duos featured Bixby assistant, the voice capabilities were missing. However, the Galaxy Note 8 will support the feature out-of-the-box. And the Bixby Voice capabilities are also being rolled out to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

One of the highlights of the Galaxy Note-series has been the S Pen stylus, which not only lets you jot down quick notes, but also scribble, and doodle things on the go. The S Pen stylus on the Galaxy Note 8 can sense 4,096 levels of pressure with a latency of less than 50 milliseconds. What’s more, the S Pen also works on the screen when submerged under water.

The ‘Always On’ display which is present on the Galaxy S7 duos and Galaxy S8 duos is also present on the Galaxy Note 8. You can also use the use the S Pen to jot down quick notes on the ‘Always On’ display without having to turn the screen on. Lastly, the Galaxy Note 8 also features IP68 certification for water and dust resistance – meaning you can submerge the smartphone under 1.5-meter water for up to 30 minutes.
