General News Saregama’s Tamil show ‘Chandralekha’ completes 1000 episodes

MUMBAI: Saregama’s South TV production arm has completed 1000 episodes of its popular Tamil show ‘Chandralekha’, which airs on Tamil GEC Sun TV.

The story of Chandralekha revolves around the conflict between two distinct women whose paths converge. The two female leads were switched at birth and ended up growing in contrasting backdrops, thereby molding their personalities and their way of dealing with life.

Shweta Bandekar is playing the role of Chandra and the second lead Lekha is played by actress Nagashree The serial has also popular faces like Meena Kumari, Niharika, Rishi, Sakshi Siva, Dhanush, and Rajesh. The crew is headlined by Guru Sampath Kumar, known for his screenplays and K. Shanmugam has penned the dialogues. The camerawork is being handled by KS Udhayashankar and the series is being directed by Sundaresan.

B R Vijayalakshmi who heads the Saregama television production arm in Chennai said, “It’s a matter of great pride that Chandralekha is the third show to enter the 1000 episode hall of fame, after Athi Pookal and Valli. This is a testimony to the fact that we are producing content that is not just entertaining but consistently finds relevance with its viewers. I would like to thank my fabulous set of actors and an equally hardworking crew, who have made this journey so creatively satisfying. And finally, thanks to our very discerning audience whose constant love and support has made us a part of their lives every afternoon.’

Saregama India MD Vikram Mehra said, “We are glad to be associated with SunTV, the leading entertainment channel in the region and also extend our gratitude for their constant support.”

The South television business of Saregama was started in June 2001 and has produced over 8000 hours of TV content in all South languages. Earlier two other popular daytime soaps namely Athi Pookkal and Valli have also crossed the coveted 1000 episode mark, making Chandralekha the third show to reach this milestone.
