General News: Sony Pix to premiere sci-fi thriller ‘The 5th Wave’ on 18 Jan

MUMBAI: English movie channel Sony Pix will premiere sci-fi thriller ‘The 5th Wave’ on 18 January at 8.30 pm.

Highlighting the bond between a brother and a sister, the film tells the story of brave-heart sis Cassie, who tries to protect her younger brother Sam from the ‘The 5th Wave’.

Based on a novel of the same name ‘The 5th Wave’ by Rick Yancey and directed by J Blakeson, the movie boasts off an amazing ensemble of actors like Ron Livingston, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff and Alex Roe coupled with outstanding visual effects. The film turned out to be an astounding box office success grossing more than $110 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.

The premise of the film follows four waves of deadly attacks by aliens that leave the earth in shambles posing a threat for destruction and fear amongst mankind. While in the first wave an electromagnetic pulse destroys all electrical power, the second manipulates the Earth’s fault lines causing tectonic disasters. For the third wave, the aliens let loose a strain of avian flu killing people including Cassie’s mother. With imminent threat from the 5th wave, Cassie desperately attempts to save her brother Sam. However, misfortune strikes and they get separated.
