General News Star Bharat extends fiction line-up to six days a week
[Image: Star-Bharat-main.png]MUMBAI: Hindi GEC Star Bharat is all set to extend its fiction programming line-up to six days a week from 9 December. As a result, the channel’s weekly programming hours will jump to 25 hours from the existing 22.5 hours.

The increase in programming will help the channel to grow its viewership share. Star Bharat, the erstwhile Life OK, has been on an upswing ever the channel was launched 28 August.

In fact, the channel became number 1 in urban + rural HSM in week 45 of BARC ratings within 11 weeks of its launch. One of the main factors in the channel’s rise has been its availability on Doordarshan’s free direct to home (DTH) platform Freedish, which reaches an estimated 22 million homes in rural India.

The channel’s programming line-up is also doing well on a consolidated basis with ‘Kya Haal Mr. Panchaal’ leading from the front.

Currently, the channel has six fiction shows during the weekdays. ‘Savdhaan India’ plays across the week at 10 pm while ‘Kaal Bhairav Rahasya’ runs from Monday to Saturday at 7 pm.

Thus, the channel will extend the airing of its five shows to six days. These include ‘Jiji Maa’, ‘Kya Haal Mr. Paanchal’, ‘Nimki Mukhiya’, ‘Saam Daam Dand Bhed’ and ‘Ayushaman Bhav’.

The channel’s primetime programming on Saturday will start with ‘Kaal Bhairav Rahasya’, followed by ‘Jiji Maa’, ‘Kya Haal Mr. Paanchal’, ‘Nimki Mukhiya’, ‘Saam Daam Dand Bhed’ and ‘Ayushaman Bhav’.

Earlier, the channel had a non-fiction show in ‘Om Shanti Om’ in the weekend 9 pm slot. After the conclusion of the show, the channel had only two shows ‘Savdhaan India’ and ‘Kaal Bhairav’ during the weekends.

As the time of its launch, the channel had three hours of fiction programming on the weekdays Monday-Friday and two hours of programming in the weekend.

From 9 October, the channel launched ‘Jiji Maa’ in the 7.30 pm slot. This was followed by the launch of socio-thriller show ‘Kaal Bhairav – Rahasya’ from 30 October, every Monday –Saturday at 7 pm.

Commenting on the extension of the fiction line-up to six days a week, a Star Bharat spokesperson said, “Our entertaining fiction shows aimed at family viewing have been warmly received. In just a short span of time – many of our shows and characters have become talking points. To further strengthen our bond with our viewers and ensure they get more family time; we have decided to extend our weekday fiction programming to 6 days a week.”

Star Bharat is reportedly working on two new shows one of which is a mega-budget show ‘Quick Silver Azad’ based on the life of freedom fighter Chandrashekar Azad. The second untitled show is helmed by Ved Raj with actor Iqbal Khan in the lead.
