MUMBAI: Digital entertainment platform The Viral Fever (TVF) is planning to launch 20 original shows across different genres. The platform is also looking to debut its first feature film apart from entering the regional space. TVF is planning to launch original content in Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati and Kannada.

TVF Originals CCO and Head Sameer Saxena said, “We plan to launch shows in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. We might do something in Gujarati as well. Our focus in terms of age has been 18-35 years, in terms of regions – across the country. We definitely want more audience based down South, so we are planning to do regional shows as well. The idea is to expand our audience base and get as many areas of the country to become our audience.”

Talking about the content plans, Saxena said that the platform will launch shows in thriller, drama and romantic genres. “We will also work with lot of OTT platforms, so we have a huge line up for this year. We will also be announcing TVF’s feature film,” he added.

TVF, he said, has always put the story first and everything else later. “We have never made a show because some other show of ours has worked; we have never tried to replicate the success of our previous show on a new show.”

TVF is all set to premiere the season 2 of Tripling in partnership with SonyLIV on 5th April. But unlike season 1 of Tripling, the second season will not be available on YouTube. Viewers can watch season 2 on TVF Play and SonyLIV only.

Saxena asserted that the move is part of TVF’s strategy. He said, “We did Partner with SonyLIV for Tripling Season 2 and second season is not going to go on YouTube. So that is a part of our strategy to work other OTT platforms as well. SonyLIV was an obvious choice for Tripling because their content is very family oriented which goes with the vibe of the show, since it’s a family show, it’s a show about siblings.”

On the reasons behind partnering SonyLIV, he said, “It makes sense to collaborate with a platform that has a lot of content in that space. And SonyLIV is the 2nd largest OTT platform in the country, so obviously with them the show will get a much wider reach. And it’s only going to help us take our story to the larger audience.”

TVF is collaborating with a lot of other OTT platforms. They partnered with Netflix for ‘Yeh Meri Family’, and collaborated with MX Player for ‘Immature’. “For all future shows that are in the pipeline, we are collaborating with other platforms as well and we will be making further announcements very soon,” he informed.

Sharing TVF’s business model, Saxena said, “it is mostly from advertisers and brands. Since everything we do is branded, from short-form videos to long-form videos that we make, most of the shows are branded. And we work with OTT platforms and license them our shows that we make. So that’s the model we work on.”

TVF Play, the company’s video on demand (VoD) service, will remain free. “We do have some plans but not right now, there’s nothing concrete as of now. We will continue to keep the medium free, at least TVF Play for right now. Maybe later we may switch to a subscription model but we don’t have plans to do that right now,” he explained.
