MUMBAI: Telugu celebrities led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan have called for a boycott of Telugu News channels TV9, TV5, ABN and Mahaa News from 2 May for promoting obscenity. Among the celebrities leading the boycott include Naga Babu, Allu Aravind, Suresh Babu, and Chiranjeevi.
The decision was taken by Tammareddy Bharadwaj, Producer Suresh Babu, and Gemini Kiran. They said that no promotional content will be offered to these channels.
The controversy started when Telugu actress Sri Reddy spoke about the casting couch in the Telugu film industry and personal abuse by Jana Sena President and actor Pawan Kalyan.
Sri Reddy’s allegations were broadcast by these news channels. They also aired special debates around the issue. Irked by the news coverage, Pawan Kalyan on 19 April called for a boycott of some Telugu news channels, accusing them of abusing women.
He also tweeted, “Boycott TV9, TV5, ABN for abusing our mothers, daughters, and sisters. And also we have to boycott them for making business out of nudity and profanity. Making business out of a helpless sister.”
The actor turned politician had also warned Mahaa News TV.
