IP & TV Forum – ISTANBUL. The Turkish pay-TV market is growing rapidly and already claimed 3,924,000 subscribers as of last year, according to Ramazan Demir, VP strategy and business development, Türk Telekom.
He added that the primary pay-TV penetration figure in Turkey stood at 24% and pay-TV ARPU at $17.6, again in 2009.

With IPTV still very much in its infancy in Turkey, satellite accounted for 68% of the pay-TV market in 2009 and cable 32%.

Taha Yücel, a member of the Supreme Council of the regulatory body RTÜK, added that there are currently 18 million TV homes in Turkey. As of June this year, there were 1,174,000 analogue and 120,000 digital cable subscribers.

The total number of subscribers to the country’s two DTH platforms meanwhile stood at 2.8 million, though the total number of satellite dishes in Turkey is now over 9 million.
