General News Twitter for Android brings bottom navigation bar, kills swiping between tabs

Twitter has just announced that its users on Android will be greeted with a new redesign that will make the interface easier to use when scrolling through tweets. Starting today, Twitter for Android will display a navigation bar at the bottom of the UI, which is currently being rolled out on phase. So be patient till the server-side update hits you.

The latest app update brings the Twitter experience to what it is on iOS devices which is due to the bottom positioned navigation tabs. This will make it easier to navigate since the nav bar will be reachable even when using large phones. The balloon to create a new tweet or a message still remains at the right bottom corner, though at a slightly higher position.

However, there’s a catch to the newest update. Twitter no longer allows users to swipe between Home, Search, Message and Notification tabs. in addition to its new location, the navigation bar will be coloured in greyish white or light blue depending on what mode you’re in.

The update also makes the action bar disappear when you’re no longer scrolling while the Notifications section has been added with two new tabs for ‘All’ and ‘Mentions’. The message request count under direct messages shows up at the top of the screen.

Since this is a server-side update, it needs to be noted that downloading the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store will not bring you the new features. You’ll have to be patient till Twitter pushes out the update to your device.
