Unbox Diwali: Snapdeal’s second edition of festive sale starts from October 12
The festival season sale events are still far from over! After fruitful results from the festive sales last week, Snapdeal has now announced the second edition of its Unbox Diwali Sale. The sale is scheduled to begin from October 12, and will go on for three days, to end on October 14. The sale will feature offers on electronics, fashion and home products. Customers making online payment using a State Bank of India (SBI) account will get a 10 percent instant discount. Also, with the recent launch of Apple iPhone 7 in India, Snapdeal is also offering Rs 10,000 discount on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, for customers making purchase using an American Express card. Along with that, Snapdeal is also holding a real estate sale in parallel, with offers on properties in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
Other than Snapdeal, its competitors, Flipkart and Amazon are planning a second leg of sales as well. According to a report in Mint, “Amazon India will hold at least two more sale events following the first leg of its Great Indian Festival event that ended last week, two people familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity.” Along with that, the publication also reported that “Flipkart, too, will hold more sale events this month.”
The last week’s sales was quite a thrill for these Indian e-commerce platforms. Right from the first day of sales, Flipkart and Snapdeal had a rocketing week. They started with an overwhelming response on day one, where Flipkart claimed to have sold half a million products in less than an hour. Snapdeal, on the other hand, claimed to have received more than 180 orders per second at the time of the launch of the sales. Flipkart said that its first day sales were 10 times more than any given day, making it the highest ever in the history of the company.
Along with that, Amazon India also claims to have had a billion hits on its site within the 12 hours of the commencement of the sale. Snapdeal too announced that more than 2 million users logged in during the first hour of its sale. The e-commerce platform claimed that the early trends showed a huge jump in mobiles, appliances, personal electronics and furniture items. The sale had a kick start with nearly 700,000 concurrent users flocking to the site within the first five minutes. And this was all within the initial few hours of the sales.
Snapdeal had over 11 million products bought from its online market during the sale. It also revealed that over two million users logged in during the first hour of its Unbox Diwali sale, and in the first eight hours nearly 200 mobile phones were sold every minute. The sale had a kick start with nearly 700,000 concurrent users flocking to the site within the first five minutes. And this was all within the initial few hours of the sales. In fact, on the second day of the sale, Snapdeal announced that it recorded its highest ever sales both in terms of value and volume on the day one of its Unbox Diwali Sale.
Snapdeal further announced that it witnessed a 9X jump in sales on day one, shattering all its previous records. Of all the orders it received, an impressive 80 percent originated from a mobile device. Giving us a glimpse at consumer behavior, the e-commerce company says that traffic from tier II and tier III cities in India grew by nearly 20 times. Snapdeal also revealed that there was a lot of traffic on smartphones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Apple iPhone 6s, Apple iPhone 5s, Xiaomi Mi Max, LeEco Le Max2, and Samsung Galaxy J2. Other products that saw consumer interest include air conditioners, laptops from Dell and Acer, kitchen appliances, and cameras from Canon and Nikon.
On the final day of the sale Flipkart sold about 15.5 million products during its five-day sale, followed closely by rival Amazon India that sold 15 million products. Snapdeal lagged a little behind with over 11 million products bought from its online market during the sale. However, during the peak time, Snapdeal had over a million users logged in at the same time surfing through its products.
