Earlier today, Xiaomi launched the Mi 4c at an event in China. The smartphone is essentially a bumped up variant of the Mi 4i. Along with new hardware, it also brings some nifty features in tow. Here’s a look at how Mi 4c differs from the Mi 4i that was launched earlier this year.

One of the most notable differences is the presence of an USB Type-C port. This is Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature this connectivity option. With the latest USB port still a rarity, Xiaomi is also offering a microUSB to USB Type-C adaptor, which can be picked up for just around Rs 51. Furthermore, the new smartphone also comes with an IR Blaster, which is compatible with more than 2,000 home appliances.

Price: The Xiaomi Mi 4c has been launched in two storage variants. The 16GB variant with 2GB of RAM is priced at priced at $204 (approximately Rs 13,500), while the 32GB storage variant with 3GB of RAM is priced at $235 (approximately Rs 15,300).
The Mi 4i too is available in two storage variants in India. The 16GB variant is priced at Rs 12,999, while the 32GB variant is priced at Rs 14,999.

Specifications and features: Both the smartphones flaunt a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display and covered with Corning Gorilla glass protection to keep scratches at bay.

There is however a difference under the hood. Where the Mi 4i is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, the new Mi
4c is powered by a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor.

On the storage front, both smartphones are available in 16GB and 32GB storage variants. However, in case of the new Mi 4c, the 16GB variant is equipped with 2GB of RAM, whereas the 32GB variant is equipped with 3GB of RAM. Neither of the devices come with expandable options, so if are looking forward to store good amount of movies, videos and music, it will be wise to go with 32GB variant.

For photography lovers, both the Mi 4c and the Mi 4i are equipped with 13-megapixel shooter with a dual LED (true-tone) flash. Xiaomi claims that the camera module on the Mi 4c comes with a super-fast auto-focus feature that can focus on objects in less than 0.1 second. There is also a 5-megapixel front facing selfie unit on both smartphones. The only difference is the Mi 4c camera supports wide-angle selfies.

On the connectivity front, both the Mi 4c and the Mi 4i are equipped with support dual SIM cards, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. One of the notable differences in the Mi 4c is that it supports 4G LTE on both SIMs and also comes with USB Type-C connector. While the Mi 4c comes with 3,080mAh battery, the Mi 4i comes with a slightly higher capacity 3,120mAh battery.

The Mi 4c will ship with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 OS along with a layer of MIUI 6 atop. However, the company has promised that will roll out MIUI 7 update to the smartphone in the coming weeks. On the other hand, the Mi 4i runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and MIUI 6 running a top. The MIUI 7 Beta update is available to download for the Mi 4i.

Xiaomi has also added some nifty features on the Mi 4c like the Edge Tap. As the name suggests, taps on the side of the smartphone can be used as shortcuts. For instance, users can double tap on the side to go back and single tap to capture a photo in Camera, among others. Double tap to wake feature is also present.
