General News Xiaomi Redmi 2 vs Micromax Canvas Selfie 2

Selfies are all the rage today thanks to things like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. And to cash in on that Micromax brought its Canvas Selfie 2, which is priced at Rs 5,999. At the same price, Xiaomi's Redmi 2 is also available but is a bit older. So let's check out the younger Selfie 2 is better or the older Redmi 2.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is a decent looking phone with a faux-leather back panel and fairly thin bezels on the side. From the front, the phone is a very unassuming looking device. Though its weight or dimensions details are not available, but it feels quite light.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has a matte finish back which is fingerprint and grease resistant. It has thinner bezels, and it is slightly smaller and lighter too, as it measures 134 x 67.2 x 9.4 mm and tips the scales at 133 grams.

Also, while the Selfie 2 comes in very formal black colour, the Redmi 2 is being offered in various colours - Yellow, Pink, Green, White, and Black.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has a 4.7 inch IPS display with resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 312 ppi, and it has Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is armed with a bigger 5 inch IPS display but it has lower resolution of 480 x 854 pixels which means a ppi of only 196. The phone doesn't have any protection, but a simple tempered glass screen guard will safeguard it against any damaging drops.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the winner of this round, as it has a slightly smaller display, but much better resolution.

Processor & Memory

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, alongside 1 GB of RAM. Its internal memory stands at 8 GB, to which another 32 GB can be added with a microSD card.

The Xiomi Redmi 2 has a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1 GB of RAM. The internal memory stands at 8 GB, which can be expanded by 32 GB.

Both these phones are very close to each other in this round. Thus, it is a draw.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 runs on Android Lollipop while the Xiaomi Redmi 2 runs on Android KitKat, but has the latest MIUI 6.0.

Xiaomi announced the Android Lollipop update for its devices some time back and Redmi 2 is likely to get it at some point but till that time it isn't upgraded to Android Lollipop, theMicromax Canvas Selfie 2 remains the winner.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has a 2200 mAh battery, but Xiaomi has not specified how much usage it will be able to provide.

The 2000 mAh battery on the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is claimed to be sufficient for 7 hours of talk time, or 313 hours of standby.

Here we would like to underline the fact that the Redmi 2 has a smaller display and less power requirement.

The 5 megapixel primary camera of the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is equipped with face detection, auto-focus, HDR, flash, etc. Ofcourse, as its name suggests, the highlight of the phone is its front camera – a 5 megapixel unit. For selfie lovers, Micromax has armed it with various camera features as well.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has an 8 megapixel primary camera which comes with auto-focus, geo-tagging, smile detection, flash, HDR, and full HD video recording ability. For selfies, it has a 2 megapixel camera that can record videos at 720p.

You have to decide what is more important to you, selfies or regular pictures.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is a dual-SIM phone with 4G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS (A-GPS and GLONASS), WiFi, and WiFi hotspot.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is a dual-SIM phone too, but it is a 3G phone and has Bluetooth 4.0, GPS (A-GPS), and WiFi.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 wins as it is a 4G phone, and has better navigation too.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is armed with a larger display, latest OS and a better front camera. However, despite being the older device, the Redmi 2 looks much better in display, connectivity, rear camera, and battery sections, hence it looks like the winner in this contest.
