#1

As expected, Xiaomi today launched the second smartphone in its selfie-centric Redmi Y series. After last year’s Redmi Y1, today the company has launched the Redmi Y2. Prices for the smartphone start from Rs 9,999, and it is set to go on sale exclusively via Amazon India.

As we have reported before, the Redmi Y2 is essentially a rebranded version of the Redmi S2 that was launched in China earlier this year. Compared to the Redmi Y1, the new Redmi Y2 brings in upgrades internally and externally. Having said that, the focus continues to be on the device’s selfie clicking abilities.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 pricing and availability
Xiaomi has launched two variants of the Redmi Y2 today. The base variant with 32GB storage and 3GB of RAM is priced at Rs 9,999. The top variant with 64GB storage and 4GB of RAM is priced at Rs 12,999. These prices are in line with what had leaked before. The smartphone is set to go on sale from June 12 via Amazon India, mi.com, and Mi Home stores. Buyers will be able to choose from three color options – Dark Grey, Rose Gold, and Gold.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 specifications, features
The highlight of the Redmi Y2 is its photographic chops. For clicking selfies, the smartphone boasts a 16-megapixel snapper up front with f/2.0 aperture, Super Pixel, AI Beautify 4.0, and LED flash. At the back is a dual-camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor, and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor.

The Redmi Y2 flaunts a 5.99-inch HD+ display with a tall 18:9 aspect ratio. There are no capacitive buttons, and users will be able to choose between on-screen buttons and Redmi Note 5-like gestures. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset paired with Adreno 506 GPU. Making sure everything ticks is a 3,000mAh battery that Xiaomi claims is good enough to last a day on a single charge.

For security there is a fingerprint sensor placed at the back, or alternatively, you can also use the Face Unlock feature. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and micro-USB port. On the software front, the Redmi Y2 runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 9.5.
