MUMBAI: Media conglomerate Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) and telecom operator Bharati Airtel have entered into a strategic alliance to curate innovative and compelling digital/OTT video content.
Under this strategic partnership, Airtel and ZEEL aim to bring millions of new users onto the digital content platforms driven by rapid adoption of smart devices and wider availability of high-speed data services.
Interestingly, the deal comes in the wake of ZEEL pulling out its content from Reliance Jio’s OTT app JioTV due to disagreement over pricing. ZEEL MD and CEO Goenka had earlier stated that the company will only do deals with telecom operators if it gets the right value for its content.
Airtel customers will get exclusive access to the premium content of ZEEL for over three years. The curated/select video content produced by ZEEL, including TV shows, original series and movies will be available exclusively on Airtel’s digital properties like Airtel TV, in addition to ZEE’s digital platform, ZEE5. This will enable Airtel’s mobile and home broadband customers to enjoy the differentiated content experience.
