General News ZEEL unveils MRP, bouquet rates of channels under new tariff regime

MUMBAI: Broadcaster Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has become the first major broadcaster to declare the maximum retail price (MRP) of its channels under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) new tariff order.

The MRP agreements will be valid from 29 December. Till 28 December, the old RIO agreement will be valid.

All the channels owned and distributed by the broadcaster will be pay. The total channel count of the broadcaster is 61 including Zee Media Corporation and Living Entertainment channels.

The MRP of individual channels has been priced between Rs 0.10 to Rs 19, which is the price cap for SD channels.

The GEC and movie channels have been priced higher compared to other channels. Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla, Zee Telugu, Zee Kannada, and Zee Sarthak have been priced at Rs 19 each.

&TV, &pictures, and Zee Talkies have been priced at Rs 17 each while Zee Tamil’s MRP is Rs 10. The MRP of English channels Zee Cafe and &flix is Rs 15.

Free to air (FTA) channels Zee Anmol, Zee Anmol Cinema, and Zee News have gone pay. The news channels have been priced between Rs 0.5 to 1.

Most of the HD channels are priced at Rs 19 barring Living Foodz HD and Zee Cinemalu HD which are priced Rs 15 and 16 respectively.

The company’s Malayalam GEC Zee Keralam, which is slated to launch in November, has been priced at Rs 0.1 in SD and Rs 8 in HD.

The broadcaster has created 78 bouquets of standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) channels across Hindi, Marathi, Odia, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. It also has mix bouquets of South channels, Odia-Telugu, and Marathi-Kannada channels.

The starting SD bouquet comprising Hindi channels is priced at Rs 45. The costliest bouquet’s price is Rs 97. The HD bouquet price starts at Rs 57 going all the way to Rs 130.

The broadcaster is offering incentives to distribution platform operators (DPOs) based on LCN position and penetration being offered.
