Almost 100,000 members to be roped in
Remember Google Wave, anyone? It was first shown off at the Google I/O Conference in May and had created quite a furore back then. But then, along with it, Microsoft announced the Bing, which managed to grab a sizable amount of media attention, thereby pushing Google Wave to the sidelines.

In May, when it was first announced, Google Wave was touted to be the "next big thing" by Google. It was told to be an extension, or rather, an evolution of existing e-mail, IM and file-sharing technologies
. With Wave, users can share images, videos, converse in what Google terms a collaborative conversation stream. Two months after the world came to know of its existence, Google has announced its intentions to go public with the launch of the service on Sept. 30. The service was active for over 6000 developers who were initially roped in to "try out" the service. In the second phase of the launch, Google will invite almost 100,000 members of the public to do the same.

The idea is to invite people to check the service out and report any bugs. You might want to keep a constant watch at the Wave homepage at http://wave.google.com. Google has also not announced as to how people will be "selected" to try the service.
