Quote:The government is launching courses in Mass Media Studies (Academic/Vocational) at the senior secondary level.

The courses will initially be offered in 33 schools on a pilot basis, following an agreement between Central Board for Secondary Education chairman Vineet Joshi and Whistling Woods International.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the course, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said that there was need to prepare children for the 21st century, which is going to be a century of enormous challenges. Launching of the course is also a step towards preparing the children for the challenges, he pointed out, adding that mass media is a harbinger of challenges.

The Minister emphasized that this is a small step and a much larger effort is required towards vocational studies which need not necessarily be based on national curriculum but can be sourced from various regions of the country and be specific to regions.
