Information
A Bangalore-based company, Lakshmi Access Communications Systems (LACS), has announced the launch of a number of competitively priced tablets, including one which is priced at about Rs. 6000. This launch comes in the wake of recent tablet releases by Reliance Communications - Rs 12,999 '3G' tablet - and Bharti Airtel's Beetel Teletech - Rs 9,999 'Magiq' tablet.

The LACS tablet model bearing the name Magnum Pepper M74V, further lowers the current price barrier for tablets. This 7-inch tablet works on Google's Android 2.2 FroYo OS and features a resistive touchscreen, and comes with an 800MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 4GB built-in storage, wi-fi connectivity, 3G dongle connectivity, front camera, 3.5mm jack, a G-sensor, a USB port, and support for an external keyboard.

Mahendraa Kumar D Jain, managing director, LACS, was quoted in a press release as saying that "We now have four ranges of Android tablets - Pepper, Tamarind, Mirchi, and Paprika, which come in 12 variants with screen sizes ranging from 4.3 to 11.8 inches, where some tablets can come with keyboards and other accessories."

He added, "The tablets are 3G, WiFi and SIM-enabled depending on the model, while top-end ones are loaded with both Windows and Android operating systems. As of now, we have launched eight tablets and by September end we will be launching the remaining."

The LACS tablets will be available at prices starting from Rs 6,250 to Rs 35,000. The tablets are already available online through the company's website, and will be available on shop shelves - both directly owned and franchised outlets - in the near future
