Help ESPN Star Sports in JV with South Korea's SBS

Sports broadcasting seems to be going through a tectonic shift in Asia as the leading network, ESPN Star Sports (ESS), has decided to fortify its position in Korea through a joint venture with a local partner.

ESPN Star Sports (ESS) and Koream media house SBS Media Holdings have announced the launch of a new JV in Korea which promises to change the landscape of sports programming and presentation in the market.

The new channel, branded as SBS ESPN, will showcase international sports content along with local sports programming.

To be launched as a localised sports service, SBS ESPN will deliver live and exclusive coverage of major sports including the Barclays Premier League, Scottish Premier League, French League, Asian Football Confederation (AFC); major Tennis Grand Slams in the Wimbledon and Australian Open in addition to the WTA Tour; as well as The US Open Championship, NCAA Basketball and International Skating Union events among others. In addition, the channel will also showcase leading domestic sports such as Korean football, basketball and baseball leagues.

Transmitted entirely in Korean, SBS ESPN’s localised programming includes on-air presentation, commentary & graphics delivered in Korean to make sports viewing more enjoyable and relevant for the local sports fans. With ESS providing sports programming on SBS ESPN, and SBS bringing its on-the-ground production facilities. the parties state that the initiative promises to usher in a new era in Korean sports broadcasting.
