MUMBAI: After Star Plus, it is Hindi general entertainment channel Colors which is adding original programming to its weekend slots.

In an attempt to spike up weekend ratings from shows, Colors has branded its Saturday programming as Shaandaar Shanivaar (wonderful Saturdays) and will be launching two new properties starting 26 February.

The channel currently airs one-hour special episodes of their popular fiction content at 8 pm, followed by reality show (Chak Dhoom Dhoom) at 9 pm.

The new shows - Wanted - High Alert and Anhoniyon ka Andhera will occupy the 10 pm and 11 pm slots respectively.

“We decided on expanding our programming vertically on Saturdays with new genre and variety. The two shows are very different; Wanted is on hard-core crime show while Andhera is a horror-fiction,” says Colors programming head Ashvini Yardi.

Both the shows are targeted towards male and youth audiences. Yardi believes that the channel will get eyeballs, with weekends enjoying higher male and youth audience.

The 10 pm show - Wanted - High Alert, produced by BAG Films, is a crime-based reality show. It will bring forth cases of absconding suspects and urge the common man to step up and take charge of his safety.

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh will make his debut as a host on the small screen in the show. He will be narrating real life cases of suspects and convicts on the run and sharing the case history, whereabouts’ and pictograms of the fugitives that will help viewers identify them better.

Yardi said, “Wanted is an initiative by Colors to create awareness on absconding suspects by sharing pure facts before the viewers and call citizens for action so that ignorance does not result in quandary. The show will definitely attract male audience and also the female audience as it will urge them to be more cautious, aware and responsible.”

Each episode will showcase two unsolved cases related to murder, fraud, rape, domestic violence, duping and other dreadful crimes committed.

BAG Films CMD Anurradha Prasad said, “Apart from delivering excellent quality entertainment, we at BAG Films, also believe in socially responsible content that brings firm and innovative vision to its viewers. Wanted-High Alert is our next step towards this social cause. We also aim at bringing in the right kind of awareness about crime in the minds of the common people, who at large are the primary victims of the criminal mindset. It is all about informing and empowering the audience.”

Wanted will be followed by Anhoniyon Ka Andhera, produced by director Vikram Bhatt. It is a fresh take on Supernatural thriller. Earlier, Colors had tasted success in the supernatural theme with its socio-horror genre show – Koi Aane Ko Hai (Balaji Telefilms) in its Friday-Sunday slot.
