BANGALORE: MTV, the youth channel from Viacom18 group, will launch the eighth season of its popular reality show MTV Hero Honda Roadies, begining 22 January.

The channel will commence ‘interrogations’ of the contestants coming to the last of the six cities for the new season in Bangalore tomorrow.

The show organizers claim that they had received applications from 2400 aspirants in Kolkata, almost 10,000 in Delhi, 4,500 in Chandigarh, 2,700 in Ahmedabad and 2,800 in Pune. MTV India AVP and Roadies selector Raghu Ram says that he expects around 5,000 people for auditions in Bangalore tomorrow.

Says MTV India channel head Aditya Swamy, "We are looking out for people who have an unusual streak in their personality and a chance to trade punches with the toughest folks on TV is not something young people walk away from. Gates to Hell just flew wide open!"

Cautions Ram, "We really don’t know what to expect from the auditions, what with the ultimate roadie Rannvijay coming onto the panel to audition contestants. We are very passionate about roadies and the contestants this year better be prepared to step up their game."

The hunt is on for six male and six female contestants, with Chandigarh’s Vibhor Sharma already selected through the Roadies Battleground 3-The Highway to Hell contest.

"We are looking at quality intelligent contestants and are not really particular of 10 out of the remaining 12 contestants are from one city," revealed Ram. "Depending upon how it goes, we could have anywhere from 13-15 episodes this season."

The eighth season of the cult reality show is once again presented by Hero Honda. It is powered by Idea, with Sparymintt Mouth Freshner, Ceat, Mc Donald’s, Crusoe Men’s Innerwear and Woodland and Steelbird Bieffe as associate sponsors.

The Ground sponsors are Baskin Robbins, Shoppers Stop and Crossword, with IBN 7 and CNN-IBN as media partners. PVR Cinemas is the multiplex partner and Overdrive the magazine sponsors.
