Help Mercury launches its Android tablet in India

New Delhi: Mercury today launched its first Android tablet in India called mTab. The release comes close in heels to Reliance's launch of the 3G tab.

Measuring 19.3x 1.7x1.4 cm, mTab features a 7 inch LCD touch screen, 1.2 GHz processor, Android 2.3 Operating System, an external 3G option, 512 MB RAM, 32 GB extendable memory and also WiFi. It comes with a G-sensor screen rotation for 3D G-games and weighs 400 grams. The tablet also has a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chatting.

The tablet is similar to the recently released Beetel's Magiq tablet. However, it seems to be way ahead to the latter in specification. It has a higher 1.2 GHz processor compared to Magiq's 1 GHz. MTab uses the latest Android version 2.3 while Magiq uses the 2.2 version.

MTab also seems to outdo reliance 3G tab on Specifications. However, only performance would tell which is better.

Mercury mTab comes with a 4000 mAh battery which is better than most other tablets. The company claims that the tablet would be able to play videos for over four hours and supports all music and video formats. It also features an HDMI output for an HD TV connection.

On the Network front, mTab supports both 3G and WiFi. It offers customized 3G packages as add ons with the tablet for free internet surfing.

The product is priced at 9,499, cheaper than 13000 of the Reliance 3G tab and 9999 of Beetle's Magiq. The price may give Mercury an edge over others.

"Mercury strives to make technology affordable to the users. However we are not in the league of providing the cheapest product to the people. We believe in providing quality products backed by features and application that are required by today's users," said Sushmita Das, Country Manager, Kobian (Mercury's parent company).

The product is currently available in stock (directly from the suppliers) and will hit the retail stores across the country in the first week of September. It also carries a warranty of one year.
