Homegrown phone makers, Micromax and Karbonn will start assembling phones in India from next year; latest media reports say.
Gurgaon based Micromax is India's second largest phone maker, the first one being Samsung. Micromax has already started trial production of phones in its Uttarakhand facility. The facility already makes TVs and Funbook tablets. This facility provide jobs to over 400 people.
Another phone maker, Karbonn will start assembling phones in its Chennai factory from January-February, 2014. This facility will employ more than 250 people. Currently Karbonn is doing all the mechanical design, software, R&D in India and the manufacturing of the phones is done in China through contract manufacturers.
This move will help both companies to have tight control over quality and costs, which means the end user will get phones at more cheaper rates!.
