In compliance with Election Commission of India, National Voters' Day is being observed in the state on January 25, 2011. On this occasion, programmes are being held at the district level and polling booths with a view to motivating and enlightening voters. The district collector and district election officer will remain present at the district level programme while tehsildar and sub-divisional magistrate will attend the block level programme. The chief guest of the programme will administer oath of National Voters' Day to the citizens.
Chief Election Officer, Madhya Pradesh, P.C. Meena has sent detailed instructions to all the district collectors and district election officers about observing National Voters' Day programmes. According to the instructions, the district election officers will organise the programme at the district levels where EPIC cards of new voters added to the voters list will be distributed. At the functions to be held at the polling booth level, letters of commendation will be given away to the B.L.Os, who have distributed cent per cent EPIC cards. If several polling booths are set up in the same building then a joint programme will be held for them. The polling booths, which are situated within 2 kilometre radius of the main programme at the district level, will be covered by that programme.
‘Jago Matdata’ film will also be screened in district’s government and private educational institutions so that the names of those students, who attain the age of 18 as on January 1, 2011, will be included in the voters list. Badges will be given to all the new eligible and registered voters. The badge will have an attractive logo of Election Commission of India with the inscription “I am proud to be a voter, ready for voting.”
Principals of schools/colleges, members of registered NGOs working for making voters aware and getting them registered and resident welfare associations etc. are being invited to attend the function. It will be kept in mind that such organizations are not affiliated to any political party. The district election officers will convene a meeting of active NGOs and take the initiative of getting new eligible voters included in the voters list and holding Voters Awareness Day.
