This Anil Dhirubhai Ambani (ADA) Group company boasts the largest content processing and digital conversion facility in the world. And it is not skimping in its hunt for fame. Tanvi Shukla and Vidhi Godiawala find out what's gotten the people at Reliance Mediaworks animated.

At the world's single largest facility for a variety of digital media services, situated in an upcoming SEZ in Mumbai, employees at these offices of Reliance Mediaworks not only restore old movie reels, they also create visual effects, and even convert famous television serials into 3D. The list is long.

Anil Arjun, CEO, Reliance Mediaworks says, “We are working for four large library projects in India including the one for National Film Archive. We've also done some work for studios in US, directly with Disney. We've worked for TV projects for BBC, and we’ve done HD conversion for Japan, for Imagica.”

Reliance Mediaworks recorded revenues of Rs 455 crore for the first half of FY11. But the major chunk of this came from the exhibition business as well as the production business. But the company expects its emerging media business to contribute 18-20% to the total revenues within the next year, which means a further scale up of the existing set up.

Anil Arjun, CEO, Reliance Mediaworks says, “Infrastructure in terms of investment has already been. But operating costs will go up in terms of manpower which will be linked to projects. More than 500 odd people between conversion and restoration will be hired in the coming months.”

The company, which owns big cinema, is also expanding its production house business to include regional language shows and cinema. Also, 2011 should see it adding 75 more screens across the country, proof that there is no business like show business.
