2011 Tata Indica DICOR

A while ago, we brought you news about the Tata Indica Dicor being relaunched in the Indian market mainly to conform to BS4 norms. Well, it is now official with Tata Motors sending us a press release detailing the same. The Tata Indica DICOR will use the same 1.4 liter CRDI engine that the Indigo used, replete with a variable geometry turbo and a 16 valve DOHC head.

This diesel engine, will produce 70 PS power @ 4000 RPM and will deliver 140 Nm torque at 1800-3000 RPM. That said, power and torque isn’t what this engine is about. It is all about fuel economy with Tata promising the Indica Dicor to be the most fuel efficient car in India. This literally translates to a Tata Nano besting fuel economy of close to 25 Kmpl which is exactly what the doctor ordered for in these times of high petrol prices.

Along with plonking in the DICOR engine into the Indica’s engine bay, Tata will also give the Indica DICOR a minor refresh, both internally and externally, to make it a more pleasant car to live with. The killer however could be the price as the Indica DICOR if priced well might be a runaway success for the kind of fuel economy Tata is promising. We’re hoping that Tata Motors address the higher NVH levels the Indica DICOR was prone to previously. Meanwhile, here’s the press release from Tata Motors.
