MUMBAI: Ten Sports Network, which operates sports channels, will air the 16th edition of the Asian Games from Guangzhou from 12-26 November.

The event will be broadcast on Ten Sports and Ten Action. A total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested by athletes.

Earlier, all the events were only shown on Doordarshan. This time the pubcaster will also air the Asian Games.

Ten Sports CEO Atul Pande said the aim of airing the event is to position Ten Sports as a multi sports network. “We are delighted to telecast 16th Asian Games from Guangzhou . Asian Games are of the most watched sporting events in the world with a huge following in India. Ten Sports distribution strength, innovative programming and viewer friendly telecast will bring a lot of value to sponsors. We want to diversify our offering and the Asian Games will help in this regard. There will be learnings from this event for us.”

Ten Sports will be bringing 12 hours of live Programming from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm every day from 13 - 26 November. The opening ceremony airs on 12 November from 5:15 pm.

In case of overlap of events on Ten Sports, there will be spill over on Ten Action. Ten Sports will be focusing on the Indian athletes centric events which include Boxing, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Hockey, Shooting, Archery, Football and Wrestling.

Cricket will mark its entry in the events category for the first time. However, the Indian cricket board is not sending the team in an all important event, an official statement said.

Mayanti Langer and Anand Narasimhan will be presenting the telecast of the Asian Games along with Chetan Baboor and Cedric D’Souza.

Ten Sports is also considering a highlights package. It could air films of the Asian Games prior to the event kicking off.

A print campaign will kick off in a couple of days, Pande said. The campaign will focus on the fact that viewers can watch the rise of Indian athletes at the Asian Games. There will also be syndicated columns, he added.
