Honda Siel Cars India is aiming high on small cars (priced below Rs 5 lakh) that are likely to be rolled out next year from its plant in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, in the first instance and then from the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan at a later date, based on the Honda New Small Concept, a highly efficient compact vehicle capable of carrying up to five people.

Sharing the above information to the journalists from Chennai and other parts of India who made a trip to the plants at Greater Noida in UP and Tapukara in Rajasthan recently, Takashi Nagai, President and CEO, Honda Siel Cars India Limited, said that the technology for the future generation centred around the safety of the people and that was the reason why the company had evolved a philosophy to respect the value of its customers across the spectrum.

Stating that the market trend for small cars had remained good for quite some time now, Takashi Nagai said that plans were there to leapfrog to the next level of compact cars in India, keeping in mind the rapid economic progress the country had made in the recent times.

“The annual capacity at the Greater Noida facility (150 acres) is kept at one lakh units per annum and the one at Tapukara in Rajasthan (650 acres) is capable of manufacturing 60,000 units per annum.”’

The Tapukara plant carries with it the state-of-the-art Press facility and a modern and technologically advanced Power Train Unit for engine components. Both units will supply body panels and engine components to HSCI’s Greater Nodia plant, he noted.

The company’s product range includes Honda Jaaz, Honda City, Honda Civic and Honda Accord which are produced at the Greater Noida facility with an indigenisation level of 77 per cent, 76 per cent, 74 per cent and 28 per cent respectively. The CR-V is imported from Japan as Completely Built Units.

“The Honda Group is globally recognised for its concern towards environment, safety and conservation of the society in which it operates. HSCI follows the same in India for achieving high standards in environmental safety in the various processes of car manufacturing,” Takashi Nagai remarked.
