For all Android lovers, here is a guide on how to run the Google’s Android OS on your netbook or desktop. The OS can be run from a Flash drive, and amazingly you shall find its speed on real hardware.

Firstly, you have to insert the flash drive or the memory card on your computer. The computer must have about a minimum of 256 MB storage space. Now, go to the Android x86 download page (link below), scroll down to the StableRelease section, and then click on the View under android-x86-1.6-r2.iso. Thus, the ISO file will start getting downloaded on your computer. Now, while this is being downloaded, you go to the UNetbootin site (link below), and download it.

How to boot and run Android OS on your x86 PC?

When downloads are finished, you shall need to run the UNetbootin. Now, you have to click the bullet beside Diskimage, then click on the “…” button and select the Android ISO file which was just downloaded by you. After this, finally you need to select the correct flash drive or memory card in the menu on the bottom, and click Ok. Thus, UNetbootin will copy the files to your flash drive. This task may take a few minutes which depends on the speed of your flash drive.

When this task is over, it will ask you whether you wish to reboot. To go ahead and run Android OS at that moment, you need to click Reboot; otherwise you can just simply exit at that moment, and then later on run Android from your flash drive. Now, if you want to try Android on a computer that has a CD/DVD drive, you could just burn the ISO file on a disk, and later on boot from it. There are free software for this task.

Now, to use Android x86 on your computer, simply restart your computer with the USB drive, and select to boot from it. All the computers might not boot from the USB drive automatically and thus you might have to change the boot options in the bios.

Now, when booting from the USB drive, select Live CD – Run Android-x86 without installation. A text prompt will be seen for a few moments as Android begins to load. Then the Android boot screen arises.

Just after a few seconds, the Android desktop will be seen on your computer or netbook. Now, you can quickly access the apps on the home screen, or open the menu to see more options available. You need to click and hold to open a context menu, such as to change the background or add a desktop widget. Otherwise, you can press your mouse’s right button to open a menu, for example to open a new tab in the browser. The Android browser is quite capable of normal browsing, and is fast and secure.

You can also install new applications while the Android session is running. The Android x86 is said to support all of the hardware, including cameras and Wi-Fi, on several laptops and netbooks.

Thus, if you are curious and want to find out as to how the Android works, then this shall prove to be a great adventure for you. So, go ahead and have fun going about the Android way.
